Framework

The S.H.A.D.E.S of Care™ Framework

More Than a Toolkit. A Movement Toward Equitable Care.

S.H.A.D.E.S of Care™ was created to address a critical gap in healthcare education: the recognition and assessment of skin injuries across ALL skin tones.

Far too often, pressure injuries and skin changes in patients with darker skin tones are identified later due to limited education, inconsistent assessment practices, and lack of culturally responsive clinical resources. These delays can contribute to worsening wounds, preventable complications, and healthcare disparities.

The S.H.A.D.E.S of Care™ Framework was developed to help change that.

Built from years of wound care experience and advocacy, S.H.A.D.E.S of Care™ provides healthcare professionals with practical tools, educational resources, and implementation support designed to improve:

• Earlier recognition

• Assessment confidence

• Clinical consistency

• Skin tone awareness

• Equitable wound care practices

• Patient outcomes

Our Three-Tier Framework

Tier 1: Foundation & Awareness

Designed for students, caregivers, and bedside staff needing quick, accessible reference tools to strengthen confidence in identifying skin changes across diverse skin tones.

Tier 2: Clinical Assessment & Action

A structured clinical toolkit that supports healthcare professionals with assessment tools, care cards, and bedside resources designed to improve consistency and action in real-world care settings.

Tier 3: Education & Implementation

Focused on long-term impact through education, training, implementation support, and organizational learning designed to help healthcare teams create sustainable change.

A Growing Educational Ecosystem

S.H.A.D.E.S of Care™ continues to evolve beyond products into a broader educational and implementation framework supporting healthcare professionals, organizations, educators, and communities worldwide.

Our mission is simple:

To help close educational gaps in wound care and ensure that every patient — regardless of skin tone — receives earlier recognition, equitable assessment, and expert care.

Because Every Shade Deserves Expert Care.
